What every judgment comes with

The editorial layer, on every judgment — not just the famous ones.

Generated from the text of the judgment itself, tied to the paragraph it comes from, and confirmed by advocates wherever an error could mislead you.

Headnotes

Each legal point decided, stated in a line with its paragraph reference. Official Supreme Court Reports headnotes are kept as published.

Case brief

Facts, issues, arguments, holding — with ratio decidendi and obiter dicta kept apart, each field citing its source paragraphs.

Opinion breakdown

Majority, concurring and dissenting opinions, their authors and the vote split — so a dissent is never mistaken for the holding.

Citator and treatment

Every case the judgment cites, every case that cites it, and how each treated it — followed, relied upon, explained, distinguished, doubted, not followed, overruled — with the supporting words quoted.

Good-law status

Overruled, reversed, doubted or legislatively superseded — shown only after an advocate has confirmed it, so you never abandon valid authority or rely on bad law.

Case history

The chain from trial court to High Court to Supreme Court, review and curative petitions included — the final outcome of the matter, linked by case number, CNR and diary number.

Statutes referred

Every Act and section the judgment interprets, linked to the eMunshi law library — including the BNS, BNSS and BSA mapping back to IPC, CrPC and the Evidence Act.

Subject classification

Every judgment placed in a taxonomy designed with advocates, for browsing by topic and filtered search.

Landmark collections

Landmark, leading-authority and frequently-cited tiers, scored on the citation graph and bench strength and confirmed by advocates — curated lists by subject, as an entry point to any area of law.

Significance notes

What a landmark judgment changed, what it overruled, and which later judgments followed or doubted it.

Equivalent citations

Parallel citations across report series and court-assigned neutral citations, so you cite the judgment in the form a court expects.

Official translations

Vernacular translations published by the Supreme Court and High Courts, linked to the judgment.

How you work with it

Ask, verify, read, carry it to the hearing.

Research chat

Ask in plain language over the whole corpus. Every answer is built from real judgments and every citation is resolved before you see it.

Citation Verifier

Paste the citations from any draft — yours or the other side's — and see at once which are followed, distinguished, doubted or overruled.

Precedents finder and law browser

Semantic search with court and subject filters, and every BNS, BNSS and BSA section with canonical text, mapping and its leading cases.

Reading workspace and cross-stitch

Questions advocates ask

Before you start.

Where does the corpus come from?

Only from public court records — judgments and metadata published by the Supreme Court, the High Courts and eCourts, official Supreme Court Reports, court-assigned neutral citations and official translations. eMunshi builds its own editorial layer; it uses no commercial publisher's headnotes, case notes or classifications.

How far back does it go?

Comprehensive Supreme Court judgments, the last ten years of High Court judgments and the last seven years of district court judgments, with new decisions added as courts publish them.

Can the AI misstate the law?

Every generated line is tied to the paragraph of the judgment it comes from, and a statement that cannot be grounded is left out rather than filled in. Where an error would matter — an overruled status, a landmark classification — an advocate confirms it before it is shown.

How is "landmark" decided?

By a defined, reproducible method: the citation graph across all courts, how later benches treated the judgment, bench strength and reportability — then confirmed by advocates. Not by anyone's opinion.

Do I need the research add-on to draft?

No. Drafting — self-serve or expert-approved — already verifies its citations against the corpus. The add-on is for your own research, reading and citation checking.

Is there a contract?

No. Pay ₹3,300 month to month and switch it off any month — or prepay ₹33,000 for a year and get two months free.
